Councilmember Jessica told the council that county officials have awarded $10,000 to support the town's planned carnival, and she asked the council for support in planning and potential funding assistance.
"A couple weeks ago I went to the county council and I actually got the $10,000 to have the carnival," Jessica said. She said the community club is willing to run the event to ease the council's workload and that organizers are exploring grants and contacts to staff the celebration.
Council members and staff discussed operational needs: where the carnival and amusement rides will be sited at the park, leaving a lane open for livestock trailers to access barns from Park Row, barricade security to prevent people moving barriers, traffic-flow plans with law enforcement, and the Fire Marshal's prohibition on golf carts in blocked areas. Jessica noted the need to plan with law enforcement to ensure emergency lanes remain clear.
Organizers said a fair-planning meeting will follow later (anticipated in March) and that staff will coordinate with law enforcement and the town's public-works crew on any necessary road closures, power, and potable-water hookups for amusements. The council did not take a formal vote on additional carnival funding at the meeting but acknowledged the county award and asked staff to assist with logistics.
