Edwardsport council adopts $4,888 additional appropriation for unexpected MVH repairs; 2026 budget hearing opened

The Edwardsport Town Council on Sept. 15 approved an additional-appropriation ordinance to move $4,888 into the motor vehicle highway (MVH) fund to cover unexpected repairs and opened the first hearing on the 2026 budget.
Clerk reported the proposed 2026 general fund budget at $80,497 with an adopted tax levy of $41,994. The clerk presented Ordinance No. 2025-9-2, saying the town needs to appropriate more money than was included in the 2025 annual budget to cover unforeseen MVH repairs. The council moved to accept the ordinance and approved it by voice vote.
Why it matters: the additional appropriation addresses immediate repair needs on town roads and allows staff to proceed with emergency or near-term repairs without waiting for the next budget cycle. Council members said the final adoption of the 2026 budget will be completed at a later hearing scheduled for next month.
Council also reviewed balances reported through Aug. 31, 2025: the clerk reported the general account balance at about $53,452 and the water and sewer checking balances and other fund figures, noting the transcript contains some numeric formatting issues; the council accepted the financial report by motion.
What’s next: the council will hold a final 2026 budget hearing next month to consider adoption of the full budget and any remaining adjustments. The additional appropriation ordinance (2025-9-2) is effective for the current fiscal administration of the town’s MVH fund.
