The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on June 16 approved several routine items, including the sale of three county parcels, liquor licenses, a personnel hire and claims.
The Board adopted Resolution No. 2026-039 to sell three parcels (10-25-431012, 10-25-431013, 10-25-431014) for a combined sale price of $34,900 to Troy M. Thompson, as presented. Jim Cary moved to approve the sale resolution and Tom Broeker seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The Board noted it had consulted with the assistant county attorney and cited Iowa Code Section 331.361 as authority to dispose of real property.
The Board approved a Class C Retail Native Wine License for Ridge Road Farms and a Class C Liquor License for Flint Hills Municipal Golf Course; Cary moved and Broeker seconded both motions. The Board also approved personnel actions including the hiring of Paul Brockett as a correctional officer at an annual salary of $50,072.77, effective June 16, 2026, on a motion by Cary seconded by Broeker.
Accounts payable claims of $478,655.22 were approved on a Cary motion, seconded by Broeker. Clerk and Sheriff fee reports for May 2026 were presented and June 9, 2026 meeting minutes were approved. During public input, County Engineer Brian Carter reported pavement markings were finishing and the Iowa DOT will deploy equipment to count vehicles in parts of the county. The Board held a closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(j) to discuss the Douglas Avenue property sale and then reconvened. The meeting adjourned at 9:47 a.m.; minutes and audio are posted on the county website.
