Tower council approves ARDC agreement for joint comprehensive plan and renews trail sponsorship; signs Bois Forte support letter

At the May 11 meeting the council approved several planning and grant‑related items. Clerk/Treasurer Tammy Mortaloni presented an agreement with the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC) to facilitate a Tower‑Breitung Joint Comprehensive Plan Update; Councilor Anderson moved to approve signing the ARDC agreement, Councilor VanDeVoort seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Separately, staff advised that the city’s resolution acting as the local government sponsor for the Howard Wagoner Ski Trail Grant‑In‑Aid program was due to expire May 24, 2026. Councilor Norby moved to approve a new resolution designating the City of Tower as the legal local government sponsor for the Howard Wagoner Ski Trail Grant‑In‑Aid funds; Councilor VanDeVoort seconded and the council voted all aye.
The council also agreed to sign a form letter of support from Bois Forte addressed to Sean Duffy for an application to the SS4A grant program; Councilor Norby moved to sign the support letter, Councilor Anderson seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The Bois Forte letter is a nonbinding expression of support for the tribe’s federal grant application.
