McDonough said April ambulance calls numbered 45 with six hospital transfers; year‑to‑date Sprint Medic calls were 35 with 15 hospital transfers.
Councilor Norby moved to hire a new EMT identified in the meeting as “Chief Dan,” pending a background check; Councilor Anderson seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The council also approved student ride‑alongs under an Educational Agreement, with students required to provide a waiver and insurance, and authorized Clerk/Treasurer Tammy Mortaloni to drive the ambulance once she completes CPR and EVOC training and per a Minnesota Office of Emergency Services variance that permits the clerk to serve in that driver role.
These actions are intended to bolster EMS staffing and improve claims collections and accounts receivable, which McDonough identified as recent operational wins. The hire and operational changes are contingent on completion of background checks and required training.
