The Newcastle Select Board voted June 22 to continue its retainer agreement with the municipal law group that has been providing town legal services on a monthly basis.
Kevin reminded the board that the initial arrangement had been authorized through June 30, 2026. Greg, the firm's attorney introduced at the meeting, said the firm has been responsive and described how the retainer works: routine municipal questions fall under the monthly retainer while larger matters (litigation, complex transactions) may be billed separately. Greg explained that partner Kristen Collins will typically cover local meetings when available to control costs and that the firm will revisit the retainer in the future to ensure it matches the town's workload.
The board moved to continue the engagement and voted unanimously to do so. The motion also included confirmation that the town manager had authority to sign the engagement, which the manager had already exercised under prior authorization. Board members said they were pleased with the responsiveness and professionalism shown in the initial period.
