Hammond council approves $10.85 million in claims; confirms board appointment

The Hammond City Council on Feb. 9 approved claims totaling $10,848,707.10 and completed other routine business including minutes approval, an appointment and the introduction of a municipal fund ordinance.
Councilman Warpole moved to approve claims covering claim numbers through 1242 in the amount of $10,848,707.10; Councilman Tyler seconded. The roll-call vote recorded nine in favor and zero opposed; Clerk Golick announced the claims passed.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the minutes from Jan. 26, 2026 after a motion by Councilman Reicos and a second. Councilman Tyler nominated Maxine Simmons to serve on the Hammond Community Corporation board; the nomination was seconded and approved by roll call (nine yes, zero no).
Councilman Warpole also introduced Ordinance 26-05 to create a new fund (3399) for municipal food-and-beverage tax proceeds and moved for passage on first and second reading; the council approved both readings by voice vote and waived a committee hearing. Officials said the measure creates an accounting fund for food-and-beverage tax receipts.
