The Hammond Board of Public Safety on Jan. 29 approved awarding an $8,474,000 contract to Larson Danielson of Leaport, Indiana, to build a downtown Hammond train station, city staff said.
City staff told the board that the contract is the low responsive and responsible bid and that the project is funded through the food-and-beverage revenue measure passed last year. “We need this station to start construction right after NICD begins their operations in March,” staff said, and they projected the station would open by June 30, 2027.
Board members moved and seconded approval of the award; the board approved by voice vote. Staff described Larson Danielson as a contractor the city has worked with previously and recommended the company based on responsiveness and experience.
The project timetable presented to the board ties station construction to NICD’s launch in March; staff said construction sequencing aims for an opening by the summer of 2027. The board did not request further delay or additional competitive review in the meeting record.
