Commissioner Steve Hallan reported that residents have complained about inadequate cell‑phone coverage in parts of Pine County. Hallan said that at a recent Emergency Communications Board/Radio Advisory Committee meeting, Jay DeCoux, a member of the Wireless Broadband & Applications Committee and Radio Communications Analyst for Cook County, indicated he could work with wireless carriers to explore improvements if provided information identifying areas lacking coverage.
Commissioners were asked to submit information about specific locations with inadequate coverage to County Administrator Kelly Schroeder or Economic Development Coordinator Lezlie Sauter. Schroeder and Sauter will compile the reports and forward them to Mr. DeCoux for further review with carriers. No formal vote was taken; the board directed staff to gather and transmit coverage-gap data.
The discussion noted that mapping reported dead zones is a first step that could enable conversations with carriers about potential solutions but did not commit county funds or specific engineering work at this meeting.
