Council moves to pursue Broadband Ready Communities designation, authorizes public meeting

Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported that EACOG has worked on the Broadband Ready Communities initiative and recommended the resolution be passed to create opportunities for additional internet service providers to enter the borough. The minutes note that the borough’s permitting requirements are consistent with the program’s recommendations.
Councilor Kerns moved and Councilor Joyce seconded a motion to proceed with the public meeting and resolution; the motion carried unanimously. The resolution itself and the public meeting are procedural steps to attract ISPs and enable broader broadband options for residents; the council did not specify funding or vendor commitments at the meeting.
