Union City council adopts broadband application, awards Devereaux Park trail contract and approves sinkhole repairs

For an immediate stormwater problem at Municipal Lot No. 1, council reviewed two contractor quotes: McLallen Construction at $6,800 and Mansfield at $5,000. The council approved the Mansfield quote, with the borough providing pipe and fittings at an estimated additional cost of $5,000. The motion to accept Mansfield’s $5,000 bid was moved by Councilor Kerns and seconded by Councilor Steadman; minutes state the motion carried unanimously. The minutes note the award is contingent on no other problems being uncovered.
The borough also approved updates to its Right-to-Know Rules and Regulations clarifying the handling of anonymous requests after Solicitor Wachter’s recommendation; that motion carried unanimously. Councilors additionally agreed to advertise amended parking ordinance language and to forward zoning ordinance amendments to Erie County Planning and Union Area Planning for comment prior to advertisement.
Motions on routine business—approval of the agenda, minutes from July 9, acceptance of the Secretary’s Report and ordering unpaid bills paid—were all approved earlier in the meeting, also recorded as carried unanimously.

What happens next: the borough manager will provide materials for the Municipal Lot No. 1 pipe work and staff will schedule the Devereaux Park work with Vavala Concrete.
