The Morristown Regional Planning Commission voted 9–0 on March 10 to forward REZN-3284 to City Council, recommending rezoning about 13.35 acres of a 22.7-acre parcel on Veterans Parkway from A-1 (Agriculture‑Forestry) to HI (Heavy Industrial). Senior Planner Josh Cole said developer Phillip Carlyle seeks the rezoning to locate office space and private storage for his businesses on the parcel, which is currently vacant.
Cole noted the parcel abuts industrial uses along Highway 160 and that staff supports the request in part because the proposed HI zoning aligns with surrounding industrial districts. He also said that, if approved by City Council, a full set of construction plans and a plat subdividing the differently zoned portions of the parcel will be required before any construction.
Commissioner Jake Stokely moved to approve forwarding the rezoning; Vice‑Chairman Jack Kennerly seconded. The commission voted 9–0.
