Holdingford board to use LTFM funds for $109,541.52 in required fire-code repairs

Holdingford Public School District business manager Garrity Gerber told the board at its March 4 work session that the district’s 2026 fire-code inspection identified several required repairs that must be completed within 180 days. The items Gerber listed included replacing exit lights, replacing five sets of fire doors, installing a strobe light in the courtyard and replacing a fire cabinet; he estimated the total cost at $109,541.52.
Gerber said the ‘‘challenge is how to pay for them’’ and the board reached consensus to fund the work from Long-Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM) dollars. Board members noted using LTFM funds will push back other scheduled repairs but, as Gerber explained, will not add dollars to the levy or increase taxes at this time. The board directed that the District’s LTFM plan be revised to reflect the change in project timing.
The repairs carry a 180-day compliance window from the inspection date; no contract awards or vendor names were specified in the work-session record. The board did not take a formal vote at the work session to approve specific contracts; Gerber presented the funding approach and the board indicated consensus to proceed. The issue will appear on the regular meeting agenda for formal action and any contract approvals.
