Scott City Council hears sewer and infrastructure updates; Public Works to review annexation request

At the March 16 meeting the Scott City Council heard several infrastructure and operations updates.
Resident Scott Martin asked the council to provide sewer and water access to his property at 881 Scott St. and to the parcel he is purchasing across the street and to annex that parcel into Scott City. Mayor Rick Brashear said the city’s Public Works Committee will hold an onsite meeting March 19 to evaluate the request.
City Administrator Dustin Whitworth told the council the city is working on an Economic Development Administration grant application for $2.6 million to fund a new lagoon and sewer work to serve Nash Road and the industrial park.
Communications Director Cindy Dirden reported an overnight electrical surge damaged one 911 phone, a camera and a door in the Communications Department. Fire Chief Shawn Jackson said several breakers were blown; H&R Alarm is replacing faulty ports and new replacement equipment has been purchased and is being installed ahead of schedule to replace gear damaged by the surge. Public Works staff assisted with issues that morning.
Public Works crews are responding to a main break on Keeley Avenue and performing water plant maintenance; personnel are coordinating with the pump truck manufacturer for repairs. Parks Director Skylar Cobb said league scheduling occurred March 15 for ten teams, mowing crews will begin next week and the Park Board will meet March 18 at 7 p.m. Mayor Brashear noted cemetery cleanup took place March 9–13.
With no further business, Council Member Mike Rhymer moved to adjourn; the meeting adjourned at 7:14 p.m. The council’s next regular meeting is April 6, 2026.
