He told the council businesses will be given 30–90 days to comply and emphasized the initial period is for compliance, not enforcement: "No business will be shut down for non-compliance" while the department works through inspections and education.
The chief said the State Fire Marshal will conduct the state inspection and that the city will perform its inspection concurrently because the inspections are similar. He also said the department is developing an emergency pre-plan for the city’s commercial properties.
The council received the demonstration as part of the Fire Department report; no formal enforcement action was taken at the meeting. Follow-up tasks include coordinating inspections with the State Fire Marshal and providing additional guidance to businesses on installation and timelines.
