A park committee member proposed purchasing heavy multi‑purpose aluminum benches for the Congden pavilion to increase event seating while reducing the risk that benches will be moved or stolen. The committee member described bench sections available in 6–18 foot lengths and said a 12‑foot section would weigh about 360 pounds.
Committee members and staff discussed placement inside the pavilion, how many sections would fit without impeding picnic-table use, storage and handling (staff would need a crew or equipment to move sections), and a ballpark price. The proponent estimated the benches could cost approximately $3,000–$4,000 for a set and said configurations of three rows could provide dozens of seats.
Members agreed to have Eric (town staff) measure the pavilion, assess what staff could reasonably move, and return with a proposal and pricing at the next meeting. The item will be brought back on the agenda for formal consideration.
