Council reviews $112,000 signage proposal; requests mockups and scaled options

The council heard a detailed presentation from Doug Merritt of US Sign Crafters on June 5 about a proposed wayfinding and municipal-sign program for multiple corridors and the municipal complex.
Merritt described modular aluminum cabinet signs with acrylic logos and automotive paint finishes and estimated a package of four large and four smaller signs would cost roughly $112,000. He said industry warranties on vinyl and 3M products typically run five to seven years and that a complete aesthetic refresh could cost $3,000–$5,000 rather than full replacement.
Council members questioned whether the larger proposed signs would comply with the town’s sign ordinance and whether the size could create sight-line or traffic-visibility issues. Merritt said he would produce neutral-material mockups of proposed placements and coordinate with the town’s traffic and police staff to confirm dimensions and sight-distance compatibility.
Council asked staff to obtain mockups, refined sizing and updated pricing for a phased approach (prioritize main corridors, consider smaller signs on lesser roads) before proceeding. No procurement decision was made at the meeting.
