Council donates $1,000 to support Opera House fundraiser; movie night moved to park

The Bristol Town Council voted June 5 to donate $1,000 from the Give Back appropriation to secure an LED screen and help the Elcart/Elkart Opera House raise funds to repair storm damage.
Jill, the town’s opera-house project lead, told the council the theater’s entrance suffered water damage over Memorial Day weekend and the group needed to move the first planned summer movie night to Condom Park. “The theater’s good, but the entrance … caused some damage,” Jill said, and vendors and volunteers have stepped forward to help raise funds and awareness.
Monster Message, an LED-screen vendor in Elcart, reduced its usual $1,500 fee to $1,000 for the June 28 event, and Monogram committed to donate 200 corn dogs for sale with proceeds going to the theater. Library staff will provide children’s activities, and the council agreed to ask staff and volunteers to help with cooking and logistics.
Jeff Beach moved to donate $1,000; Doug Smith seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Doug Smith, Kathy Burke, Greg Dolski and Jeff Beach voting yes. Council members said the appropriation for the expense is already budgeted under the give-back line.
The council encouraged the community to attend the park event and to support the theater’s continuing facade campaign and repairs; officials said the town will follow up with event logistics and fundraising details.
