Middletown reviews electric utility rate study proposing roughly 10% revenue increase over five years

At the Oct. 6, 2015 meeting, the Clerk-Treasurer presented an electric utility rate study proposing to replace current structure with a single base charge and a single flat per-kilowatt-hour rate. The study outlined small annual rate increases over five years designed to produce roughly a 10% increase in total utility revenues.
Council Member Dave Wagner urged that the proposed increases be adjusted to more closely reflect the projected budget increases for each of the five years. The Clerk-Treasurer agreed to make the adjustments and report back at the council's next meeting.
The council took no formal vote on rate changes at the Oct. 6 meeting; the matter was discussed and sent back to staff for revision and a future report.
