Statham City council approved a proposal on Dec. 16 to retain professional services to update the city’s standards and specifications for water and sewer construction, which staff said last were updated around 2001.
“These standards currently are from 2001,” a staff member said, explaining the city must refresh its specifications so developers and city projects conform with Environmental Protection Division (EPD) requirements and any changes in construction inspection practices.
The staff member described the engineering engagement letter as standard for professional services and said materials and sample language are ready to be implemented with the contractor. Council members asked clarifying questions and then approved the proposal by voice/show-of-hands vote.
Next steps: staff will proceed with contracting and update the standards document for future permitting and inspections.
