Northwoods Transit reports two buses out of service and awaits grant for repairs; ADRC outlines vouchers, events and staffing updates

During the Oneida County ADRC Committee meeting on May 26, 2026, Ms. Barb Newman provided an update on Northwoods Transit and ADRC Manager Ms. Mya Olkowski briefed the committee on program operations, events and staffing.
Ms. Barb Newman reported April ridership for Northwoods Transit was down but characterized that as normal for the period. She said two buses are currently out of service for maintenance and updates; the agency is waiting for grant funding to proceed with repairs. Ms. Newman added that a survey of a 4‑acre parcel intended for a future Northwoods Transit building is complete and that the appraisal is pending. She reported the transit operation is fully staffed at present.
Ms. Mya Olkowski reviewed recent and upcoming ADRC events, including the May 22 'Fun Friday' Picnic in the Park that drew more than 60 participants, and announced World Elder Abuse Awareness Day programming scheduled for June 18 with a presentation by Donna Rosner of the GWAAR Elder Abuse Program. A boating trip on Boom Lake organized by the "Let's Go Fishing" Hodag Chapter is planned for June 26. Reservations for these events are available by calling the ADRC at 715‑369‑6170.
Ms. Olkowski said the annual farmer's market vouchers will be available starting June 1 at the ADRC front desk. Eligibility criteria recited at the meeting: Oneida County residence, age 60 or older (55 for Native American residents), and meeting the stated monthly income limits (reported in the meeting as $2,461 for a one‑person household with $876 per additional household member); vouchers are $25 per household. Staff noted that calls and walk‑ins dropped in April after tax season while adult protective services referrals have increased compared with the prior year.
Mr. Joel Gottsacker reported human resources activity: five positions were filled in April and May and five positions are in process. The ADRC is accepting applications to fill the citizen member seat vacated by Ms. Joan Hauer; applications are due June 15 and may be picked up and returned to the ADRC office.
Finance summaries were discussed; Chair Ms. Debbie Condado noted receipt of the 2026 financial reports and Ms. Olkowski said there were no fiscal red flags and a meal wait list is not required at present.
