Brown County commissioners extend disaster declaration, set early-voting Saturdays and approve hires and payroll

The Brown County Board of Commissioners met June 15 and approved several routine and emergency items, including an extension of the county disaster declaration and authorization of two Saturday early‑voting sessions.
Chairman Lucas Heinen opened the meeting at 1:00 p.m. The board unanimously approved minutes for June 8 and June 11 and voted to accept the June 11 payroll, which totaled $183,247.78 and included disbursements from general, road and bridge, appraiser and other county funds.
County Clerk Nicole Lee presented two internal property‑use agreements to allow early voting at the Brown County Election Office on Saturday, July 25, 2026, and Saturday, October 24, 2026, each from 10 a.m. to noon. Heinen moved to approve both agreements; Commissioner Richard Tesoriero seconded and the motion carried.
The commissioners also voted to authorize a Letter of Support dated June 15, 2026, addressed to Grey Snow Communications LLC that asks the contractor to correct identified deficiencies on the Kickapoo Tribe Fiber Optic Project prior to project closeout. The motion to approve the letter was made by Commissioner William Pollock and seconded by Tesoriero.
Emergency Management Director Brandon Roberts, participating by phone, described the need for more time to gather damage information. The board approved Resolution 2026‑19, extending the county’s disaster declaration an additional seven days.
On personnel matters, the board recessed into a 20‑minute executive session beginning at 2:48 p.m. to discuss pay and performance of non‑elected personnel; the session closed at 3:08 p.m. with no action reported from the executive session. Later the commissioners voted to hire Virginia Woehlecke as a part‑time taxi driver for the county’s Services for the Elderly program at $17.00 per hour.
The meeting adjourned at 3:51 p.m.; the board scheduled its next regular meeting for June 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
