Council considers two downtown sites for proposed dog park

Council members and staff discussed two candidate sites for a dog park: a larger corner lot at Johnson and Council and an alternate lot on Magnolia Street adjacent to the trail. Speakers said both sites could connect to the trail and that the Johnson corner lot may be preferable because of size and access.
Discussion covered amenities and constraints: potential fencing, water access for drinking and cleaning, bag/poop-station maintenance, and drainage problems at a nearby Bruce Street Park stream that currently saturates adjacent land. Staff noted some dog-park designs can be vertical rather than horizontal to fit constrained lots and recommended obtaining cost estimates and designs from landscape professionals.
Council did not adopt a formal site or budget at the meeting; staff agreed to gather quotes and return with a recommendation and options for utilities, drainage mitigation and long-term maintenance.
