Town manager reports upgrades, park work and event plans; selectmen outline July 3—4 celebrations

Town Manager Michael P. Walsh told the Board of Selectmen on June 1 that several departmental projects and community-safety initiatives are underway.

Walsh reported the town has received 50 smoke alarms for community safety programs and that the Fire Marshal position is in transition. He said the town selected a survey firm to support grant-funded trail expansion and that information-technology staff implemented security-camera upgrades and improvements to the town hall meeting room. Public Works recently completed beach restoration at Salmon Brook Park and continues work on storage buildings, generator planning and roadway access improvements.

Community Services reported strong participation in senior tax-assistance programs and made renter-rebate applications available while youth fundraising continues for scholarships. The Registrar of Voters, Walsh said, managed three budget referendums with volunteer support, established secure storage for voting equipment and outlined upcoming primary and early voting dates.

In selectmen reports, Mark C. Neumann said the Granby America 250 Committee is continuing event planning with a monthly meeting on June 18 and confirmed July 3 and July 4 activities: a July 3 concert and bonfire at the park and a July 4 parade from the high school to Salmon Brook Park followed by a picnic and speeches. Vice-Chairwoman Margaret Q. Chapple thanked participants in the Memorial Day parade and said, "Granby has grit," while also announcing "Jazz in the Park" performances by school jazz bands.

The public session and executive session were not used. The board adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
