The superintendent reported that the Career and Technical Education director secured a $115,000 grant to establish a student-run school store aimed at giving students hands-on workplace experience in areas such as customer service, engraving and small fabrication. Chair (S1) said the store will be located in Room 313 and integrate with work-based learning and vocational classes. The program will initially be supported by grant funds for start-up supplies and training.
After a brief executive session, the board approved several superintendent-recommended hires by voice vote, including multiple food-service substitutes, an English teacher (Laura Chambers), a paraprofessional (Barbara Reynolds), and bus drivers (including a full-time hire, Donnie Reid). Each recommendation was moved, seconded and approved 'all in favor.'
Next steps: staff will place the CTA grant-funded store into the work-based learning structure and complete onboarding for newly hired staff.
