At its June 22 meeting the Bloomfield Town Council recorded several operational actions in addition to larger capital decisions.
Hiring authorization: Council discussed a first-quarter FY2027 hiring authorization request from the town manager (to hire, among other roles, a town engineer and a custodian) and debated head count, internal transfers and timing. Councilor Waterhouse moved to table the hiring authorization until the full council can review additional information; the motion to table passed by roll call.
Peace pole: The council considered a request from Sharon Mann and the Beautification Committee to install a community peace pole and associated garden on the Town Green, with an estimated cost of $1,000–$3,000. Council approved use of contingency funds up to $3,000 on the condition that the council must approve the final design rendering before installation.
Donation acceptance: Council approved acceptance of two cornhole boards donated by Fairview Architectural for town use; the town manager said the donor approved a broader use by the entire town and that the boards could be used at public events.
Outcomes in brief: hiring authorization — tabled; peace pole design and up-to-$3,000 appropriation contingent on final council-approved design — approved; donated cornhole boards — accepted.
Next steps: the town manager and relevant committees will provide costed designs and renderings for the peace pole and return them to council for final approval; the hiring authorization will be rescheduled for a future meeting with additional detail.
