Board approves MClass dyslexia-aligned screening, 55 iPads and Progress Learning pilot

Edwardsburg Public Schools' board on June 30 approved two instructional-technology purchases and a pilot assessment program to strengthen early literacy screening and college-readiness diagnostics.
Staff told the board that the state's dyslexia-screener law now applies for 2026–27 and that MClass (a DIBELS platform) is on the approved list. The district will use ISD grant funds to cover class-kit start-up costs and the 35M grant to pay roughly two-thirds of the annual licensing; the transcript cites a 35M grant offset of $9,774 and a remaining district share of about $5,900.
To support MClass administration the board approved purchasing 55 iPads for classroom and resource teachers; staff said the iPads speed assessment entry and support progress monitoring for special-education and MTSS students.
Separately, the board approved a contract to pilot Progress Learning, a web-based SAT/PSAT formative assessment for grades 8–11, with a quoted annual cost of $20,600 and expected partial offset by programs the district will retire.
A presenter told the board the purchases and pilot are intended to reduce teacher workload for assessments, improve diagnostic precision and align district practice with new state requirements.
