Boone County commissioners approve claims, pay bond interest, designate LB644 printer and table wage talks

The Boone County Board of Commissioners on June 8 approved routine county business including vendor and accounts-payable claims, a bond interest payment and steps to comply with LB644 mailing requirements.
The Board approved vendor claims including White Star Oil Company (General $1,534.56; Roads $13,178.82; Ambulance $775.84) and Beaver Bearing Co. (Roads $426.64). The Board also approved consolidated accounts payable across funds, listing General (0100) $282,888.93; Road (0200) $250,916.64; Inheritance Tax (2700) $75,656.00; and smaller amounts in other funds. On a separate motion the Board authorized payment of the ninth bond interest installment for the Limited Road Bond, Series 2021 in the amount of $2,405.00 to Chase NYC.
Treasurer Laurie Krohn and Sheriff Denny Johnson reported distress-warrant collections for 2023and 2024: $3,005.07 collected on 15 distress warrants without penalties, $3,170.56 on 14 distress warrants with penalties, and one unpaid warrant of $90.98; the Board accepted the report.
To comply with LB644 notification requirements the Board designated MIPS Print Shop as the countyprinting service for 2026-2027 joint public hearing postcard mailings to landowners. The Board also approved signing a Nebraska Association of County Officials letter urging Governor Pillen to allocate BEAD non-deployment funds toward broadband connectivity and interoperability across Nebraska.
The Board authorized advertising the 2020 Ford F-45 Demers ambulance as surplus and accepting sealed bids; advertisements will run June 17 and June 24, 2026, with sealed bids accepted until 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026 and opening scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026. (The meeting record contained an inconsistent year for the bid-opening date; the Board's stated schedule places both deadlines in 2026.)
On personnel matters, department heads presented wage-and-merit increase options and the Board voted to table further action on wage increases until the June 15, 2026 meeting. The Board approved a budget-preparation agreement with Mueller & Honcik PC for approximately $4,850$5,000 and accepted monthly official reports from county offices.
The Board entered an executive session under Neb. Rev. Stat. 84-1410 at 11:57 a.m. to prevent needless injury to an individual and closed the session at 12:20 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 1:25 p.m.; next regular meeting is scheduled for June 15, 2026.
