Deval and other staff described the scope of work as large and costly; one speaker referenced an earlier 2017 estimate of about $2 million and said the most recent estimate he had seen was about $6 million. Deval said the city has completed required plan submissions and will continue preparing project materials so the work is "shelf ready" for GDOT funding to become available.
Councilmembers clarified that the idea of rerouting Main Street to divert big trucks is only an idea presented to GDOT and is not a decided action. Staff said they will keep project partners updated and will continue work on plans and utility coordination while awaiting available state funding.
