The Lincoln County Board of Education approved revised district purpose, vision and belief statements after a two‑day strategic planning process facilitated by CSA.
Miss Alexander, executive director at CSA, told the board the process included an online survey with 111 responses and focus groups of roughly 35 participants (students, parents, teachers, administrators and staff). She said the purpose/vision language — "to help our students reach their fullest potential through world‑class learning grounded in small‑town values" — resonated widely, and the recommended change was to clarify the statement by adding "high expectations."
Alexander said the focus groups and survey respondents also highlighted values such as honesty, integrity and community involvement. The facilitation team recommended slight edits to belief statements (including combining and reordering some items and emphasizing that the district "will" rather than "should" do certain things).
Superintendent Howard Gunby recommended adopting the revisions developed during the work session. Trustees approved the proposed language by motion and second at the meeting.
The board and facilitation team said the revisions are intended to be reviewed periodically (roughly every five years) and to guide district priorities, including instruction, technology use and community engagement. Staff noted one recurring theme: stakeholders want technology to complement, not replace, hands‑on instruction.
