Council members gave informal consensus to begin clearing an empty lot at Johnson and Council streets for a proposed dog park and to allow up to $10,000 in initial spending for debris removal, small-tree trimming and cleanup.
The council member who proposed the work said the lot is roughly a half-acre and is filled with tires, brush and deadwood, and that staff will get multiple quotes and assess exact property lines and tree preservation needs before committing permanent fencing or larger improvements.
Council members emphasized salvaging large, healthy trees when possible and suggested staff return with layout options and firm cost estimates before advancing the fence and build-out phases.
