Albert Sandoval sworn in as Miami Springs police chief, pledges accountability and visibility

Albert Sandoval was sworn in as chief of the Miami Springs Police Department during the city council meeting, taking an oath to uphold the U.S. and Florida constitutions and local ordinances.

Mayor Fahed and City Manager JC Amador introduced Sandoval and highlighted his long service in the department. Amador called Sandoval “a family man” and said Sandoval had the experience and commitment needed to lead the department after a recent leadership transition.

Former Doral Police Chief Matthew Castillo administered the oath. Sandoval told the audience he was grateful to former leaders and retirees, thanked his family and pledged that the department would continue to improve. “This department will continue moving forward with accountability, visibility, and pride,” Sandoval said.

Sandoval’s career in the department dates to 2001; he graduated from Miami Springs Senior High and later from the police academy in 2002. He has served as a canine handler, honor guard member and instructor, and rose through the ranks to deputy chief. The city manager and council members noted those assignments and his college degree in criminal justice from FIU while congratulating Sandoval.

Angela Ramos, representing County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis’s office, presented a congratulatory certificate and said the commissioner looks forward to supporting the city and department.

The ceremony included remarks from Sandoval thanking officers and staff for their work during a period of change. Sandoval closed by saying the badge belongs to the community and that he will work each day so residents feel safe and heard.

The council and attendees applauded; the meeting then continued with other scheduled awards and business.
