Waterfront Advisory Board elects Jenny Schafer chair, names Chris Nikoloff vice chair

The newly formed Waterfront Advisory Board unanimously selected Jenny Schafer as chair and Chris Nikoloff as vice chair at its first meeting, and set its regular meeting time for the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m.

Board members exchanged brief introductions before taking up officer selection. A nomination for Schafer was made and seconded; the motion passed on a verbal vote of members present. The board then agreed to a standing schedule, with the next meeting set for June 23.

The session opened with a short explanation from staff that the city commission had made two minor changes to the resolution creating the combined board—clarifying an alternate member’s voting status and requiring alternates be city residents. Members described a range of local ties and professional backgrounds, including longtime residency, commercial and charter fishing, and small‑business ownership.

Public comment at the meeting touched on waterfront definitions and parking, with several residents urging clarity on what counts as a “working waterfront” and asking for improved parking management as development proceeds. Staff said follow‑up materials and more complete backup documentation will be provided before future meetings.

The board will carry officer recommendations forward to the city commission workshop and continue its business at the next scheduled meeting.
