Commissioner disputes claim he 'forced' jail entry as commission approves minutes

A committee member criticized comments made in a prior meeting and denied an allegation that he "forced his way into the jail," while the Iron County Commission voted to approve the June 8 minutes at its June 22, 2026 meeting.

During the minutes discussion the commissioner (Speaker 4) said the prior description—that he had forced his way into a secure facility—was false. He said he instead entered through the normal public access, rang the doorbell and attempted to deliver a gallon of distilled water for his son's medical device. "I did not breach security, bypass security, or force my way anywhere," he said, and requested that the record reflect his objection to personal attacks made during the earlier discussion. He also said he had requested the video and related communications about the incident and had not yet received them.

The commissioner acknowledged his own role in a heated prior exchange and said he regretted language he used, "but taking responsibility for my conduct does not require me to accept false statements about my conduct." He moved to approve the minutes as a record of what occurred while reserving his objection to the alleged characterization of events. The motion was seconded by the chair (Speaker 2) and approved by voice vote.

The vote to approve minutes was taken alongside routine administrative business. There were no further formal findings, incident reports, or recorded disciplinary actions announced during the meeting. The commissioner said he had not received the requested records and asked that the video be produced so the matter could be resolved.

The commission did not take additional formal action on the allegation at the June 22 meeting; the minutes were approved and the board moved on to other agenda items.
