The Carrollton City Council on a voice vote approved a rezoning and plan development for 1302 Highway 27 North to allow a proposed Chick-fil-A and two waiver requests, city staff said.
Planning staff described the request as the creation of a commercial planned development with relief from the prohibition on multiple parking aisles in front of the building and a reduction of the required 10-foot landscaping strip along the front property line to four feet. The planning commission reviewed the application in June and recommended unanimous approval.
Randall Stallings of Foresight Group, the civil engineer representing the applicant, told the council the design requests were driven by safety and operational needs. "The main reason is safety and additional stacking," Stallings said, adding that "they would rather have the drive-thru around the back of the building and have their pedestrians not get involved with that." He also said Georgia Department of Transportation spacing requirements off the highway informed the layout.
No members of the public spoke in opposition. After a motion, second and voice vote, the mayor announced the motion carries and the rezoning request was approved.
The approval authorizes the planning and design approach described to the council and the requested waivers; staff and the applicant indicated they are available to answer follow-up questions about engineering and landscaping details.
The council moved on to the next agenda item after the vote.
