Parks seeks funds to repair Oak Island courts, Silven Hill lot and final playgrounds

On Oak Island, Py said the courts are "in very bad shape" and that the city must either do temporary safety repairs or potentially close courts if permanent funding is not found. Committee members asked whether the courts can be dual-striped for pickleball; Py said courts can be striped for dual use and even have pickleball courts painted on each side of the net.
The Silven Hill parking lot has been on CIP for eight-plus years; pictures in the packet show sections down to gravel and the presenter emphasized the recurring deferred-maintenance cost escalation. On playgrounds, Py noted the two playgrounds remaining do not qualify for community-development-block-grant funding and could be phased across two years.
Why it matters: parks assets host year-round activity and school and community programming; deferred maintenance increases per-project cost and can result in closures.
Next steps: the committee will score parks requests using the CIP matrix and decide phasing based on available 2027 funding.
