Sidney Community School District board approves multiple staff contracts, vendor bids and policy updates

At its Aug. 11 meeting the Sidney Community School District board approved a slate of personnel contracts, accepted vendor bids for milk and bread, renewed managed IT services, raised activity pass prices to $100 and adopted several board policies; all recorded motions passed 5-0.
The Sidney Community School District Board of Directors approved multiple staff contracts, vendor bids and updates to district policy during its Aug. 11 meeting.
On a motion by Vice President Justin Travis, seconded by Director Teresa Graham, the board approved a package of personnel contracts covering teaching positions, paraprofessionals, a bus driver and coaches. Contracts recorded in the minutes include Secondary Math (Janice Shanno), Secondary Science (Rhonda Almquist), Secondary Business Education (Jonna Loewe), .5 FTE Elementary Art (Alisa Philips), fourth-grade (Michael Lovett) and fifth-grade (Nancy Boyle) classroom teachers, PreK paraprofessionals and a range of extracurricular coaching positions. The motion to approve the personnel slate carried 5 ayes, 0 nays.
The board also approved vendor bids and a contract renewal. Vice President Travis moved to approve Anderson Erickson Dairy as the milk vendor; Director Darynn Ruiz seconded and the motion passed 5-0. Director Megan Franks moved to accept Martin Brothers as the bread vendor with a second from Director Teresa Graham; that motion carried 5-0. Director Franks additionally moved to renew the Midwest Data Center managed IT contract for 2025; Director Ruiz seconded and the renewal was approved 5-0.
Directors voted to raise activity season passes to $100.00 after a motion from Director Teresa Graham and a second from Vice President Travis; the change passed unanimously. The board also approved revisions to Board Policies 106.01 Series, 402.03, 405.02, 411.02 and 501.03 on a motion by Director Franks and second by Vice President Travis, with the motion carrying 5-0. Two items related to the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB)—appointment of an assembly delegate and IASB legislative priorities—were tabled for a future meeting.
Superintendent Michael Brown and building principals provided routine reports: Elementary Principal Shannon Wehling shared PK–6 enrollment and open elementary positions; Secondary Principal Kim Payne reported Jr./Sr. High enrollment, staff professional development plans and thanked local organizations that provided staff meals. Maintenance, transportation and activities staff reported on summer projects, bus inspection and route finalization, and updates from band camp and athletics. The maintenance report noted the concession stand is expected to be ready for the first home football game.
The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Sept. 15, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:57 p.m. The minutes are recorded as unofficial until approved at a subsequent meeting.
