Planning Commission advances routine items, seeks driveway inspection policy and property cleanup

The Harris Planning Commission handled several routine and administrative items at its June 23 meeting.
Commissioner Al Siedow moved to approve the May 28, 2025 regular meeting minutes; Commissioner Shari Denny seconded and the motion carried with all in favor. The commission also voted to amend the regular agenda to add Fish Lake Dock as item A after a motion from Siedow and a second from Commissioner Neil Elmquist.
City Clerk Shannon Geier reported that Chisago County has ceased conducting driveway inspections for municipalities; she is working with Public Works to draft guidelines and a formal procedure or ordinance for driveway and culvert installation and inspections. Geier also said the owner of PID 14.001888.00 (trailers on Forest Boulevard near the recycling site) has contacted the city and is organizing disposal of the buildings.
Commissioner Al Siedow reported that ten tee-ball teams are scheduled to play during Harris Days. He noted that although $1,500 had been allocated for picnic tables, he did not bid on auctioned tables because he perceived limited council support; winning bids were $150 per table. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m after Siedow moved to adjourn and Denny seconded.
Next steps: staff will continue work on driveway/culvert procedures with Public Works; the City will monitor the property-owner cleanup on Forest Boulevard.
