Starmont board unanimously approves consent agenda and several routine items

The Starmont Community School District Board unanimously approved a multi-item consent agenda and several separate motions at its regular meeting on Sept. 9.
Julie Uhlenkamp, board member, moved to approve the consent agenda that included the meeting agenda, Aug. 12 minutes, monthly financial reports and bills (audited by board member Jason Gearhart), personnel recommendations and resignations, volunteer coach approvals, open enrollments, fundraisers, special education contracts and annual agreements (including a cooperative agreement with Iowa State University). Vicki Althoff, board member, seconded the motion; it carried 5-0.
Separately, the board authorized a High School Fine Arts Day Trip to the Gallagher Bluedorn Center in Cedar Falls and Get Air in Waterloo on Sunday, March 9. Julie Uhlenkamp moved for approval; Jason Gearhart, board member, seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
The board also approved a request to solicit bids for snow removal services (motion by Uhlenkamp; seconded by Althoff), approved the district's K–12 Lau (English Learners) plan (motion by Jacob Moellers, board member; seconded by Uhlenkamp), and approved an out-of-district bus route on W45 and 100th Street intended to eliminate or reduce a safety concern (motion by Jason Gearhart; seconded by Vicki Althoff). Each of those motions carried unanimously, 5-0.
Jacob Moellers, board member, moved to approve early graduation requests as presented, pending successful completion of graduation requirements; Jason Gearhart seconded the motion, which passed 5-0.
On a separate administrative item, the board approved bids to sell obsolete gym equipment: a plate-loaded neck exercise machine for $30 and a preacher curl bench for $40. Moellers moved for approval; Julie Uhlenkamp seconded and the vote was 5-0.
The board handled these items as routine business; no contentious debate or recorded dissents were reflected in the meeting minutes. The board adjourned at 7:48 PM.
