Stanwood council hears department reports, schedules budget workshop and Fun Fest date

During its Jan. 12 meeting the Stanwood City Council received routine reports from city departments and confirmed upcoming meetings and community events.
City Clerk Jessica Lasack said updated budget worksheets were distributed to every department for the next budget meeting and that she is preparing budget line numbers and W‑2 and 1099 forms. Lasack said she will be on vacation Feb. 16–20 and that utility bill penalty processing will be delayed to 9 a.m. Feb. 23; residents were instructed to use the drop box while she is away.
Public Works Director Tim Schultz reported root cleaning on Farmers Street and South Avenue, completed generator maintenance performed by Power Services, removal of Christmas lights and that he had met with LL Pelling to gather quotes for spring street work. Schultz said he is updating budget numbers to reflect those needs.
Deputy Knoche presented the sheriff's office report and recorded 76 calls during the reporting period. Clerk Lasack reported that the parks department had four rentals in December (one canceled for weather) and one scheduled in January; she said the city is obtaining estimates to repair a shelter post struck by a car.
Library staff Mallie reported 280 visitors in December and listed upcoming programs including a teen takeover, Monday Mania, story week and a movie night on Jan. 20. Mallie said she completed accreditation work and expects the summer reading program; she asked the council to authorize a debit card for the food pantry account, and Clerk Lasack said she would contact the bank to arrange it. Mallie also said MGA has provided designs and the library will solicit bids.
Councilmember Rottman announced Fun Fest 2026 will be Sept. 19 and a soup supper fundraiser is set for March 7 from 5–7 p.m. The council scheduled a budget workshop for Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. and set the next regular meeting for Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
