Stanhope council approves pay for officials, authorizes credit-card access and updates fines; budget and handbook tabled

On Dec. 9 the Stanhope City Council approved pay rates for mayor, council and emergency volunteers, authorized city credit-card access for the clerk, updated parking fines to the EJS schedule, and approved a small fire/EMS insurance premium increase; budget planning and the employee handbook were tabled until January.
At its Dec. 9 session, the Stanhope City Council approved several administrative measures and routine items.
The council approved annual and per-meeting compensation for elected officials and emergency volunteers: Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem pay is set at $600 annually with $20 for special meetings; council members receive $20 per meeting; fire and EMS meeting and call pay is $20; EMS call-fire pay is $10. The motion to approve the compensation schedule was carried as part of the general agenda items.
On finance housekeeping, Council member Jill Haman moved to authorize City Clerk Jori Young to access the city's UMB credit card; Beau Jensen seconded the motion and it carried. The council also voted to update the ordinance book to use the EJS current fee schedule for parking fines (motion by Haman, seconded by Jensen). Council approved a slight increase in the annual fire/EMS insurance premium, with Jensen moving and Haman seconding.
Budget planning and revision of the employee handbook were both tabled until the January meeting. During the canvass materials section, City Clerk Jori Young distributed certificates to recently elected mayor Jeff Schroeder and incoming council members Devin Hensley, Mindy Hetland and Tom Stupp.
The consent agenda (approval of the Dec. 9 agenda, Nov. 18 minutes, payment of claims and the financial report for 11/1/25—11/30/25) was adopted earlier in the meeting on a motion by Mindy Hetland, seconded by Jill Haman.
The meeting concluded with brief board/committee headings and a council comment thanking the Stanhope Library board for an event on Dec. 6. Council member Beau Jensen moved to adjourn; Haman seconded and the meeting ended at 6:44 p.m.
