Stacyville council approves loan, contract payments, event closures and schedules hearing on Jendro trash cans; residents raise affordability concerns

At its May 11 meeting the Stacyville City Council approved RESOLUTION 2026-09 to enter a general obligation corporate purpose loan agreement and adopted a series of routine motions covering contract payments, event logistics and municipal administrative items.
Council approved Rolling Hills change order #1 to fix a driveway drainage issue and authorized payment for order #2. The minutes record a $134,860.07 payment to Denver Underground & Grading among the approved disbursements. Council also approved removal of 10–12 dead or dying trees at the daycare and authorized closures of Chatham, Lawrence and Vernon streets for the town’s Tuesdays On Broad events on June 2, July 7 and August 4; council authorized purchase of four barricades for those events.
Financial items approved included April revenue reporting (General $4,836.49; Road Use Tax $4,224.66; LOST $5,919.88; TIF $152,273.73; Water $15,513.43; Sewer $10,069.09) and routine May payments to vendors listed in the minutes. The council set the municipal credit card limit at $5,000 and named Paul Halbach, Tammy Lamb and Joseph Erbe as authorized signers.
During the public concerns portion of the meeting members of the public raised questions about the Jendro garbage-can proposal—particularly price for those on fixed incomes, accessibility for elderly residents, and the degree of public notice about the change. The council had already passed RESOLUTION 2026-08 to set a public hearing on the Jendro proposal for June 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stacyville Public Library.
Other routine approvals included renewal of the Stacyville American Legion liquor license and purchase of a storage shelf for the community center maintenance closet. The council adjourned at 8:46 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for June 8, 2026.
