Statham council swears in Barton and elects Terilli as vice mayor

At its Jan. 6 meeting the Statham City Council administered the oath for Councilmember Joshua Barton and elected Councilmember Terilli as vice mayor by a 4–1 ballot vote; the council also approved minutes and heard routine departmental reports.
Councilmember Joshua Barton was sworn into a four‑year term by City Attorney Jody Campbell at the Statham City Council meeting on Jan. 6, 2026. Barton’s term runs through Dec. 31, 2029.
The council then held a ballot election for vice mayor. Councilmember Penn moved to hold the election and Councilmember Burnette seconded. The secret ballot produced four votes for Councilmember Terilli and one for Councilmember Patterson; Councilmember Terilli was elected vice mayor for a two‑year term ending Dec. 31, 2027.
Councilmember Burnette moved to approve the Dec. 16, 2025 meeting minutes, and Councilmember Patterson seconded; the council approved the minutes 5–0. Asst. City Accountant Karine Brooms delivered the finance report, Cpl. Knight presented the police department report, and Public Works Director Brett Day gave the public works report. Mayor Debi Krause summarized plans for the upcoming year and referenced a personnel policy vote held Dec. 16, 2025.
