Silver Creek Township reaffirms leadership, raises stipends and wages in reorganizational votes

The Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors completed its reorganizational business Jan. 6, confirming leadership roles and approving changes to stipends and maintenance wages.
On a motion by Supervisor Ryan Nelson, seconded by Supervisor Andy Christensen, the board approved Mike Helman as chair and Supervisor Geyen as road boss; the motion carried 3‑0 with Helman recorded as abstaining. The board also voted to keep current committee assignments and to maintain the twice‑monthly meeting schedule. The township cleanup day was set for May 2, 2026.
The board approved compensation changes. A motion by Nelson, seconded by Christensen, set monthly pay for the chairman and road boss at $600; the motion carried 3‑0 with Chair Helman abstaining from the vote. A separate motion by Christensen, seconded by Forsman, increased maintenance pay to $38 per hour and set part‑time plowing pay at $35 per hour (otherwise $30 per hour); that motion carried 4‑0.
The board addressed staffing and finances: it authorized posting two full‑time maintenance positions on Indeed and approved up to $500 per posting. The board also authorized the treasurer to pay an overdue IRS balance. Maintenance staff told the board the 2023 John Deere tractor purchased via MN Equipment should arrive within a week, and board members praised the maintenance crew for deicing roads after a recent freezing rain event.
The board tabled review of a driveway application and a hall rental due to time and adjourned at 9:17 p.m. on a unanimous motion.
