Union City Council approves multiple finance and grant measures, awards Renaissance grants

During the meeting Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported the borough received a $100,000 ECGRA Renaissance Grant. The council approved a motion to recommend four Renaissance grant applications totaling $17,675 for the current grant period and to carry two applications totaling $9,452.65 into the 2024/2025 period. Wells explained the grants are intended to support property improvements to combat blight; council approved the recommendation unanimously.
On finance items, council approved payment of a Cross Paving invoice of $104,740.81, allocating $92,130 to Liquid Fuels and $12,610.81 from the general fund. Council also passed a County Aid resolution to apply $15,625 toward a payment to Suit-Kote for the 2024 seal coat project. Separately, Union City Volunteer Fire Department repaid in full its ambulance loan of $59,250, a repayment the minutes record without further comment.
Council also approved opening a PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transferring approximately $140,000 from the capital equipment account at Northwest to earn a higher interest rate (motion by Councilor Kerns, seconded by Councilor Steadman). The council approved posting removed playground equipment from Southwest Park for sale on Municibid.
