The Silver Plume Board of Trustees agreed to a town clean-up day on May 16 at the Timberline Transfer Station, with on-site assistance from Timberline contact Bryan from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Clerk Chelsea Nihiser will distribute a flyer with May utility bills and post event details on the town website but will not advertise on social media to discourage non-resident use. Several trustees volunteered to assist residents with removal and loading.
Trustees also discussed an ongoing trash problem: a dumpster at the bottom of Silver Street fills by Saturday each week and leads to overflow and wildlife scattering trash. The park dumpster was removed and replaced with two bear‑resistant trash cans, but the Board acknowledged some residents still need a dumpster option. Chair Lee Berenato said he will discuss relocating a dumpster to Willis Street and speak with nearby residents (including Janine and the Franklins) about possible placement; a private resident identified as 'Stormy' has also offered use of his property.
Options discussed included restricting access with a combo lock for residents on specified streets, negotiating a maintenance-response contract with Timberline to require quicker service (Trustee Martin Gitlin suggested a 30‑day accountability window), or installing a secured park enclosure with cameras (a previously considered but expensive option). The Board did not adopt a final solution at the April 27 meeting; Berenato said he hopes to have a resolution before the next meeting.
