The Harris City Council on March 9 approved a preliminary plat to divide a roughly 115-acre parent parcel owned by the Lindgrens into four lots, with buildable lot sizes ranging from about 5.4 to 7.6 acres and the remainder consisting largely of wetlands.
Nathan Feist, the planner who presented the application, said the proposed lots would be served by private well and septic and that there were no current plans to extend city water and sewer to the area. He said access would be by private road/shared driveway and that a 66-foot access corridor was included to preserve sufficient width should utilities ever be needed in the future. The Planning Commission had held the required public hearing and recommended approval.
Council members discussed private-road standards, county driveway permit requirements and culvert specifications, and whether the dedicated access corridor would adequately accommodate future improvements. Brian and Sonia Lindgren answered council questions about the proposal.
On a motion by Council Member Al Siedow, seconded by Council Member Garret Pearson, the council approved the preliminary plat. All members voted in favor.
The approval establishes only the preliminary subdivision layout and conditions; final plat approval, compliance with county driveway and culvert requirements, and any future utility extensions would be addressed in subsequent proceedings and permitting.
