Council approves multiple tax-abatement compliance filings for local manufacturers and developers

Schlemmer Brothers Metal Works (607 S. Cass St.) was reported to have met its commitments and to have hired more staff than required; the council approved its personal-property compliance by roll call. Wabash Castings LLC (3837 Westminster St.) reported higher investment than projected ($7.3 million) but fewer of the originally projected 80 new jobs (the presenter said 47 new hires); staff noted the project still qualified under the abatement terms and the council approved the compliance form by roll call.
Paper Works and Pegworks were presented together; staff said both spent more than projected and collectively hired additional staff beyond commitments. The council approved personal-property and real-property compliance for those employers. The council also approved compliance for H and O Wabash Spec 1 LLC (a 30,000-square-foot speculative building), and staff described ongoing marketing efforts by owner Martin (Logan Properties).
Council members asked routine questions about hiring and operations (one manager confirmed they had not reduced employment and anticipated more hiring) and voted to approve each compliance statement. Roll-call votes were recorded for each item as documented in the meeting minutes.
