Board approves $55,000 for Trillium Health Resources; Homes of Hope seeks $300,000 in ARPA funding for Hope Station

Anthony Ward presented Trillium Health Resources’ annual report for Anson County and the board approved a $55,000 appropriation for the coming fiscal year by motion and recorded approval in the meeting minutes. Grants Administrator Denise Cannon, joined by Christina Danis of Centralina and construction manager Matthew Rea, briefed the board on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award of $950,000 that the state directed the county to convert from rehabilitation to reconstruction for four homes; the grant touches properties in Morven, Lilesville and Wadesboro.
Chipper Long and Teresa Cochran of Homes of Hope described the Hope Station project, a proposal to convert the former McRoy Bed & Breakfast into housing for people experiencing homelessness. They requested $300,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to help start the project. The presentation included program goals and a funding request, but the board did not record a vote on the ARPA request at this meeting; commissioners thanked the presenters and noted the request will return for further consideration.
The board also approved two appointments to the Board of Equalization and Review (Jeff Boothby and Byron Carr) for two‑year terms. No further action on Hope Station funding was recorded in the minutes.
