Stanwood Council approves levy and budget amendments, OKs FEMA generator contracts

Stanwood’s City Council approved its maximum property-tax levy and a series of budget amendments and contracts after public hearings this winter and spring.
At the Feb. 13 meeting the council adopted Resolution 2023-04 setting the maximum levy rate and then approved Resolution 2023-07 adopting a budget amendment after public hearings that drew no written or oral objections, Clerk Stephanie VonBehren said. Both measures passed on roll-call votes recorded as unanimous.
The council also approved a contract with Acme Electric to install FEMA‑compliant generators: a 20 kW unit at the park shelter and a 24 kW unit at the combined fire station/city hall. Council members recorded unanimous votes to accept the work and related service terms.
Clerk VonBehren told the council that budget worksheets had been distributed to departments and that budget workshops would be held in January; later meetings finalized amendments and set the FY2024 budget hearing. Where public hearings were opened (for the levy and for budget amendments) officials reported no public objections.
Why it matters: the adopted levy and budget amendments determine the city’s revenue limits and how municipal services — including generators, street maintenance and public-works staffing — will be funded in the coming fiscal year.
Council actions recorded in the meetings included formal motions and roll-call approvals for the levy, budget amendment and generator contracts; votes were noted in the minutes as “all ayes.” The clerk said the city will continue routine budget scheduling and periodic finance reviews.
The council set the date for the FY2024 budget public hearing in March and later approved the FY2024 budget after follow-up hearings and motions.
